In the experiment, virgin HDPE was processed, ground, and reprocessed through injection molding procedures up to 10 times. After each cycle, the material was analyzed in collaboration with external research institutions using advanced methods. The results confirmed that the mechanical and chemical properties of HDPE were largely unaffected by the recycling process.
All of this means that products made from recycled HDPE can match the quality of those made from virgin material. all of this proves that HDPE is a highly sustainable option. HDPE products, such as waste containers, typically have a life-span of 10 to 20 years. The ability to reuse HDPE material 10 times extends its useful life to potentially 100 to 200 years.
