We pull decommissioned HDPE pipe from oil and gas fields, wash it, reclaim it, and turn it into boats. Material acquisition, quality control, fabrication, design one team, one shop.
Sheet extrusion under our own roof.
We don't buy sheets from a vendor and hope. We extrude them ourselves. Thickness tolerance, density, weld compatibility controlled from the first pound of pellet to the last cut on the CNC.
The hull is half the boat. We build the other half too.

Every hull starts on a CAD station in our own engineering office, gets reviewed by the same team that will build it, and rolls out the door of the facility it was specified in. No outsourced naval architecture, no overseas fabrication, no handoffs between vendors who have never met. How do I take care of an HDPE boat hull?
Rinse it with fresh water after every trip, pull the drain plug and let it dry, and take one walk around the hull to look for deep gouges.
HDPE does not need paint, wax, or gelcoat repair, and the hull itself will not rust. Most real maintenance is keeping the metal hardware bolted to it tight. Damage is repaired by plastic welding, not epoxy or fiberglass patches.
What are Legacy HDPE boats made from?
High-density polyethylene recovered from oil and gas pipelines.
Legacy reclaims the pipe, extrudes it into sheet in-house in Wyoming, then cuts and plastic welds that sheet into hulls. One crew handles every step from raw material to finished boat.
What temperatures can HDPE handle?
HDPE stays tough down to about -50 °C (-58 °F) and holds its shape in continuous use up to about 50 °C (122 °F), with short spikes to about 80 °C (176 °F).
That range is why the same material works for winter ice work in Alaska and summer heat in the South.
What is the melting point of HDPE?
HDPE begins to melt at about 130 °C (266 °F).
It softens well before that point, so the practical working limit is much lower. The same property is what lets HDPE be welded, repaired, and recycled.
Does HDPE break down in sunlight?
Black HDPE made with at least 2% well-dispersed carbon black is considered UV stabilized for long outdoor service by the Plastics Pipe Institute.
UV mainly affects the outer surface of the material. Storing a boat covered or in shade still helps seats, wiring, and electronics.
Can a damaged HDPE hull be repaired?
Yes. HDPE is repaired by extrusion welding, which fuses new HDPE into the damaged area so it becomes part of the hull.
Gouges, punctures, and cracks can be welded, often in the field. Epoxy and fiberglass patch kits do not bond reliably to polyethylene.
